Our Social Support Group activities will be taking a break in January, but don’t worry – we’ll be back with exciting events in February! Keep an eye on your emails, as this will be the first place we announce the upcoming activities.

November Milestone Reached!

In November, our incredible Mid Murray Support Service team went above and beyond, clocking up an impressive 22,759 kilometres as we brought care and support to our community. That’s more than half the distance around the world!

A huge shout-out to our passionate staff and volunteers – your dedication and care are felt with every kilometre travelled. Thank you for making such a difference!

By the Numbers: Our Impact in November

November was another busy and productive month for our team, and the numbers reflect the dedication and care that go into every service we provide.

241 nutritious meals were provided, ensuring our clients had access to healthy, satisfying food.

We currently support 364 clients across our community, each receiving personalised care to meet their unique needs.

A total of 2,222 hours of direct care were delivered, covering a wide range of services, including domestic assistance, personal care, home maintenance, transport, and social support.

Our amazing volunteers contributed 460.36 hours of service, making a significant impact on the lives of those we serve.

Here's a breakdown of our volunteer hours:
460.36 hours in various roles
172.96 hours in admin
13.92 hours in the kitchen
5.48 hours in home care
268 hours at Scrooges Country Treasures

These numbers showcase the collective effort of the entire Mid Murray Support Service community, working together to make a difference, one service at a time.

Sweet Potato & Black Bean Chili

Ingredients:
2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can diced tomatoes (400g)
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
3 cups vegetable broth (or water)
Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
Add the sweet potatoes, bell pepper, cumin, chilli powder, and paprika. Stir well to coat the vegetables with the spices.
Pour in the vegetable broth, diced tomatoes, and black beans. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 25-30 minutes or until the sweet potatoes are tender.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro if desired.

Serves: 4-6
Cost per serving: Very affordable, especially when using pantry staples!
Health benefits: Packed with fibre, vitamins, and minerals, this dish is perfect for a filling, nutritious meal.

This chilli is not only healthy and low-cost but also a great way to feed a crowd or have leftovers for the week!
